In Memory of a Non-Dreamer

Solo Exhibition | 2022

The installation In Memory of a Non-Dreamer is an invitation into a non-space, a place where the ear and the mind can linger, pause, and examine what lies beyond the missing side of life.

At the center of the space, a dialogue unfolds between a horizontal aluminum rod and a conical plumb bob pendulum, both suspended in the middle of the room. Each encounter between them produces resonance, a frequency that spreads through the walls and the space. Beneath the rod lies a mattress, waiting for the visitors' bodies, inviting them to absorb the vibrations, letting the sound cross the boundaries of hearing and fill the entire body.

On the floor, concrete crumbles gently beneath each step, while a collection of books stands with their pages turned outward — evoking a sense of something withheld, inaccessible. These subtle elements echo the fragility and elusiveness of memory.

Henri Bergson's ideas on time provide an additional resonance to the experience offered by the installation. Bergson distinguished between mechanical time, which measures moments in equal intervals, and lived time — a continuous, subjective flow experienced from within. Within the installation, visitors experience the tension between these two perceptions of time: the pendulum moves at a fixed rhythm, dictating measured moments, yet the vibration that penetrates the body, the unmediated sensation of sound and space — all create an experience of a different time, fluid and alive.

In this space, with our pulsing bodies, we are placed between one present and another, asking what lies between one point and the next in time, and then immediately forget. A living monument to all that has passed without ever accumulating.
