An Independent Center for Art and Culture in Haifa.

The Gallery

Mezo Gallery is an independent, multidisciplinary art gallery established in late 2021 by a collective of creatives from Haifa, including sound and performance artists, composers, musicians, a dancer, a community organizer, urban planners, and a researcher.
Located on Sirkin Street in Haifa, in a diverse neighborhood with residents from various social and economic backgrounds, the gallery operates as a nonprofit space dedicated to contemporary art and culture.

The Space

"Mezo" signifies an intermediate space. The gallery functions as a multidisciplinary artistic platform, engaging with and showcasing a wide range of fields — from visual arts to performance, music, and sound, to literature, cinema, poetry, and community activities. Situated in Haifa’s ‘Hadar’ neighborhood, between the Carmel mountain and the sea, and adjacent to the renewing yet still peripheral Talpiot Market, the gallery itself exists as an intermediate space. This position allows Mezo to experience, examine, and reflect the transformation processes taking place in the area.

The Team

Mezo operates entirely on a volunteer basis, supported by a dedicated group of artists and cultural activists. The gallery is open to everyone, valuing inclusivity and collaboration in creating a sustainable cultural space.
Gallery Team: Yael Sady, Lior Eytan, Yoav Levy, Elisheva Ben Tal, and Gal Amoyal.
Founders: Yocheved Ohayoun, Tal Rabinovich, Omri Gaiger, Yarden Diskin, Nadav Penn, and Gal Amoyal.

Vision and Activities

Mezo Gallery seeks to provide a platform, opportunities, and visibility for young and local artists, to enrich Haifa's cultural landscape, and to make art accessible in public spaces—simple, inclusive, and free of charge, for audiences of all backgrounds.
The gallery operates with rotating exhibitions that change every two months, open to the public. Alongside and within these exhibitions, the gallery hosts workshops, performances, lectures, reading evenings, concerts, and open studio sessions. Participating artists receive free creative and display space, along with curatorial, technical, and promotional support from the gallery’s team. Each exhibition is accompanied by a series of events, including festive openings, artists talks, performances, and discussions on diverse topics. The gallery also collaborates with local organizations and businesses to foster connections and expand its cultural impact.

Community Impact

The gallery plays a significant role in reshaping Sirkin Street, a historically neglected area. Through exhibitions, performances, and cultural events, Mezo brings light and vibrancy back to the street, enhances the sense of personal safety, and attracts young people, local businesses, and culture enthusiasts to the neighborhood. The gallery also serves as an open home for local residents, offering them opportunities to participate as viewers, regular visitors, or active partners in exhibitions and cultural events.
